W.E. —“In Higher Being Bodies, page 195 the last sentence,  “But the horse needs to be convinced that Self-remembering is more important then its own steaming desires, which are only concerned with the needs of the moment.”

When I read this a couple weeks ago it brought a clarity into my increasing awareness of my different  states of consciousness.

So many of the I’s that I become have me in a state of no or minimal consciousness of myself, which is profound. I don’t even really exist in these states. Which consume so much of my time. Something coming from my body has a want and it wants it want now! Like a drug addict. It fits into a regular predictable pattern and if i don’t give it what it wants it gets, edgy, irritable, clever and deceptive to trick me, convince me into giving it what it wants right now.

These I’s I take on, that I  become have their faces buried deep into the object of their identification.

I saw from the sentence i mentioned that these I’s generally see no memory, no past or future, they don’t even see themselves. They have no care for my well being. They just want what they want in that moment. No over all big picture. They don’t see they are over taken by a want nor do they care. They don’t know the light of consciousness. They seem to have never been fully drawn into the light of consciousness, which self remembering can begin to allow.

I think I saw once on a Tarot card dead people floating up out of their graves.  That is what i started to experience when i saw in a state of self remembering where there is  the awareness of the present moment, memory and  conscious sensing discerning ability . These I’s where forced to rise up out of their grave and connect to a bigger picture. There now was a clear difference, discernment  between these unconscious of themselves I’s and their surroundings and self remembering and the conscious mixing of the two. The unconscious force to rise in the encompassing unity of conscious light, created by self remembering.

Then in a state of self remembering watching these I’s in me begin to float up out of the world of self centered unconsciousness into a state of seeing memory, truth, their relation to a bigger picture, the greater need of ones being.

Its Amazing! Its incredilible to me.”

OdB:  “I recognize this deeply. What you describe is an objective  result of Self-Observation. Now that what observes is under less laws then that what is observed. Work I’s are of a different weight and density and filled with precious Kesjdanian energy. Mechanical automatic I’s are much heavier, hard to observe and they do what they want and we lose precious Kesjdanian energy to them. Our aim is to keep this energy for Work. We need Kesjdanian energy for the accumulation of higher energies that belong to World 24 and even World 12 and 6. Mechanical I’s with almost no Consciousness belong to World 48 and 96. (See Lee Van Leer’s Chart below and chart of Ray of Creation)

As an example, let’s stay with competition. Don’t get me wrong I don’t say competition  is wrong or bad. I do say, for Work, competition belongs to World 48 and 96. This is where ; Playing a role comes in. We need non-identification and non-judgement so much if we wish to reach impartial Self-Observation.

We need to learn how to enter World 24. What keeps us away from that higher World, is our identification with World 48 and 96 . Gurdjieff would say, in these worlds we throw our energies from the emptiness into the void.

To reach 24 we need to consciously digest the two higher being foods, Abrusdonis and Helkdonis. To do this we need compassionate impartial Self-Observation.

Motivation of the heart.”

From W.E.

What I see now.

I remember myself.

Observer in head brain lights up my body and atmosphere. Fills this  universe of body and atmoshere with light. I see/sense this universe.

My heart lights up.

My observer in the head brain. Commands a powerful position, but needs to work to contemplate, digest the information it is receiving consciously.

The heart has a huge influence on what actions to or not to be taken to what is being percieved, contemplated, digested by the observing awareness. It reaches out in kindness and understanding.

I’m breathing with awareness.

The spine gives another quality a strenght and a reference point of stability, groundedness. knows where it needs to stand. It sees the actions that bring me to vertical center. Strenghten my vertical spine and what will pull me away an fragment me.

You mention the density of different I’s and those that through the empty into the void and those who don’t. I see that clearer now.

Abrustdonis and Helkdonis I don’t think I know what these substances are, but i read more about them and see how they are relate to what we are talking about and what I read said they where related to conscious contemplation,  conscious labor and intentional suffering.

I’m beginning to feel, what seems to be the feel of compassionate impartial self observation. There is no criticism. There is a feeling of love, of kindness to self and others. I sat with grief today, it was ok. I worked not  to identify with it. Attach it to someone or something. I didnt try to cover it. It help show more of what i previously could not see as well before. It helped me be more helpful. It made me more real.

After I perused a dream of my Jungian friend and then contemplated and gave some feedback late one evening,  I had this connection in my dream…I am wondering how many connections I get because of the male mind, crying out to me in dreams. How much of the feminine in me is raging at the HYSTERIA OF GAIA….she has been SPILT UPON (BP),  CHEMICALIZED, and her senses have been handled with PERVERSITY.  I am watching the incredibly few males in my life who think and act in depth receive the hysteria of the women they have chosen to be in ‘partnership’ (part-in-her) and I see the perverse sexual connection, often only implied from the father to the female child, as the seat of these issues….some of the perversity took place as actual molestation, but as Freud later reported after his ‘seduction theory’ hysteria could be in the mind and the fantasy of the child…..I think it goes more deeply into the archetypal world of the primal feminine….not to mention the story of Gaia, the primal TITANIC force that united with URANUS….in birthing our OLYMPIC FAMILY….Right now, in astrology, Uranus is opposing Saturn, squaring Pluto (will be in orb for  the next six months at least) ….so I imagine, that in the ethers are many in depth chaotic dreams coming to the forefront. I had made a decision about two days ago to clean out my body, to allow for healing and growth to take place by way of putting ‘green’ back into my system, thriving on live foods instead of dead foods….and I really came to this conclusion as I know I have to physically withstand the CHAOS OF GAIA in this build up to 2012…which  is at its peak right now.  I have so much more to say on this and will start writing and putting some things out on my site….however notice in your own families how the female has gone ‘nuts’ in many instances….a silent or open hysterical reaction to everything SHE feels has RAPED her mind, heart and soul.  Hysteria is the unconscious going mad, rebelling against everything that is  in front of one’s projections in the external world.  It is an over and overt reaction to what IS.  Gaia has lost touch with her senses and we have helped that by muddying up our existence so that it shows grave disrespect on our parts.  We are part of the problem.

It becomes important …so very important to me to listen to the intimate connection I have to the males in my life…it spurs the reaction of the primal feminine in me…the mother earth, the GAIA..  We can always go to Wikipedia and see the myth in its encyclopedic form, however we need to realize that the archetype of Gaia is alive and well, screaming and screeching at us to pay attention to how we are perverting her efforts to come closely into alignment with our environments.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaia_(mythology)   When we are up against major constellations in this year of 2010, moving into 2012, we are in the midst of our own hysteria, chaos or whichever name you want to give it.  The masculine is being repressed, manipulated by his inner feminine who is going completely hysterical at this point.  The feminine is holding the masculine hostage, waiting for the final, “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to treat you this way.”  SHE is doing this with an undertone of  “Vengence is mine!”  We have all sorts of names for this in psychology however it doesn’t match the intensity as it affects more than fifty  percent of our population, those who can sensitize themselves to the spiritual and archetypal world, striving to bring us into wholeness…the internal becomes external until we can assimilate and bring our body, minds and souls into a capable earth movement toward reconnecting to ‘oneness’. We are all in the ‘soup’ as CG Jung says succinctly.  Thank the Gods for Carl Jung, Joseph Campbell and the pioneers who brought the archetypes to life, and the myths into the 21st century.

What we see around us is women trying to communicate their emotional content and it is contaminated with perversity of childhood issues, men trying to receive emotional content from the anima (feminine self) and it is contaminated with some of the same matching issues….We are matching up our hysteria, our rape of the psyche and our emotional chaotic fluids.  We can see hysteria when the emotions are like those of a child, where the ‘thinking’ mechanism no longer works to ‘figure it out’.  We are all caught up in it.  Many females suppress any hysterical reaction due to their introversion or repression of expression…..but the underlying feeling is one of hysteria.  We can read the etiology of hysteria from a Freudian viewpoint.  It is similar to an orgasm of expression rather than a sexual orgasm, a frustration gone wild.  http://courses.washington.edu/freudlit/Hysteria.Notes.html This phenomena is affecting our sexuality and our relationship  to our spiritual Self in ways that we are burying in our unconscious and putting on a shelf to think about later.  We are attracted to people in our lives who fill in the void, fill in our inferior functions, then subliminally dishonoring the very people who offer us our balance point.  (See Psychological Types, Myers-Briggs as to your type and your inferior processes)

Jung went through several stages of beliefs about hysteria….some of them stemming from his work with Breuer and Freud, but he also takes the whole energy of hysteria to a deeper level and associates to the unconscious.  These quotes are taken from his first volumes of his letters:

“I have a feeling I am practicing vivisection on human beings with intense inner resistance.  It seems that introversion leads not only, as in hysteria, to a recrudescence of infantile memories abut also to loosening up of the historical layers of the unconscious, thus giving rise to perilous formations which come to light only in exceptional cases.” (12 June 1911)

Jung understands hysteria as a result of repression and suppression of what Freud calls the incest wound and what is later, in Jung’s work about the primitive condition of the archetypal incestuous life as lived out in primitive tribes which he studies as well as the collective unconscious which carries forward this ‘incestuous woundedness’, real or imagined.   He believed differently than Freud who believed in repression/suppression;  he  believed that these wounds come from our collective unconscious and surface when the external world calls them out.  According to Jung both go back to the primal conditions in the original family archetypes.  He sums this up in a 17 May 1912 letter:

“Like the stones of a temple, the incest taboo is the symbol or vehicle of a far wider and special meaning which has little to do with real incest as hysteria with the sexual trauma, the animal with the bestial tendency and the temple with the stone  (or better, with the primitive dwelling from whose form it is derived.”

Needless to say, our reality today is about dealing with a disrupted and hysterical Gaia, the feminine soul of man, the ‘anima’.  There are a myriad of ways that this is being acted out around us….just look around.  How many people today suffer from labels, such as bi-polar disorders, mood disorders, anxiety disorders, not to mention depression as a total stifling of hysteria gone under.  Jung believed it was a compensation for our weaker type, whether it be thinking, intuition, feeling or sensation.  You can find out what type you are by going to http://www.personalitypathways.com/type_inventory.html  and test for your own typology, with the Myers-Briggs.  I mentioned this before because we are attracted to those missing elements in our lives and we need relationships which balance this out.  I am an intuitive/thinking type and my inferior functions are sensation/feeling.  As I go into my late sixties, I finally realize that I draw to me and am attracted to the sensing/feeling ‘other’ to help me balance this out, however my best friends and connections are intuitive/thinking types.  It is uncomfortable to be around those inferior functions, at the same time, we NEED them in our lives for balance.  Gaia is out of balance right now and so are each of us in that we are distancing ourselves from the very thing we need to fill the voids within.

We are all dealing with the ‘hunger issues’ of the mother earth and her infliction into our unconscious where we can no longer fill her needs through trying to assuage that hunger.  We eat when we are hungry don’t we?  Or do we use food as a way of avoiding our own hysteria, our own feelings, senses, etc.?  I recently watched Oprah Winfrey interview the author of Women Food and God, Geneen Roth.  She spoke to the ‘hunger’ as something we ignore and either don’t eat when we are hungry or don’t know when to stop because we are not paying attention to when we are full.  Are we so out of touch in our society as to the message that food (another one of Gaia’s presents) represents instead of _____ to fill the void?  What is the void we are trying to fill, the emotional void?  Hysteria is knowing we are hungry for something and frantically eating anything to fill this hole in us.  Maybe our hunger is not about food and never has been.

Now that you have read my rant on this subject, I would love to hear how it has been affecting you  in your life.  Many of my ideas come from those who take the time to write about their feelings and connections to life.  This is important to meditate on as we move into 2012.  It is all kind of exciting in a way.  We chose to be here NOW.

We often wrote off of each other and these could just have easily been my words. He died recently and this is my tribute to him.  Thank you Ken for all of your hard work and dedicated service to mankind.)

“All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players…”

Shakespeare said something like that. He offered a paradigm of reality seeing life as a dramatic play in which we are all compelled to “read our lines” and meet our inevitable end. This fatalistic view of reality was not original to Shakespeare. History credits Greek Tragedy with an earlier version.

In more modern times, Constantin Stanislavski, Russian stage actor/director, and teacher developed a method of “being” not just acting that would foster individual spiritual growth. (Read more about it – The Transpersonal Actor) He had a more optimistic paradigm of reality. He prophesied that we, as individuals, could create our own lives through self expression, reaching deep into our psychic resources. Perhaps he understood Shakespeare’s other wisdom, “The play’s the thing, to catch the consciousness of the King.”

Stanislavski recognized that these resources were both personal and universal. Tapping into the same pool of intuition, Carl Jung charted these deep waters and named it the “collective unconscious”. His identification of “archetypes” became a “cast of characters ” or “roles” that each of us access unconsciously to play out our personal life scripts.

Fritz Perls, the Father of Gestalt Therapy, brought the “play” to group work and individual personal growth with the “hot seat” dialogue. He facilitated both the verbal scripts and the intuitive experience to guide the client toward greater self awareness and intentional integration.

How I learned Astrology

I had been practicing Gestalt in group and individual session for several years when I became curious about esoteric subjects like astrology and tarot. I had practiced dialogues with imaginary people (my father, mother, significant others), empty chairs and pillows, trees, animals, and of course, the “world” as I saw it. When I recognized astrology as archetypal, I included its symbols in my personal work. I would say, in a Gestalt session, “I am Mars!”, and then experienced the back flow of my declaration. Feelings of fear, anger, challenge, excitement, images of war and violence, even physical responses such as deeper breaths, flushed skin, spontaneous flexing of muscles in my arms and thighs, energy coalescing into images of ancient Roman warriors. “I am a Warrior!” I would say as I “owned” and accepted the warrior in myself (filtered through Carlos Castaneda’s “Warrior”.)

“I am Scorpio!” I felt a rush of sexual feelings and images with a sudden need to hide them from the group. Alas, I didn’t know it then, but I was beginning to tune into and integrate my Mars in the 10th house in Scorpio with the subtleties of its oppositions, conjunctions and square to Pluto…my T-Square, my ongoing process, my Gestalt.

With psychodrama, pillow talk dialogue, and time to meditate, I began to realize that Something powerful flowed through me on it’s way through animals and plants and planets. To me, Mars is not just a small red dot in the sky, an intellectual concept, nor just a thing…. it’s Me. I give “My Mars” more of it’s share of my life and value it as a unique part of myself… and part of the Universe at the same time. With this spiritual connection, I began to feel a little bit more at home in Universe.

With only street knowledge of astrological symbolism, I built a base of personal knowledge and experience that I later discovered corresponded to “key words and phrases” in the cookbooks of Astrology. Astrology has become a part of me. And I’m a part of Astrology!

“Astrology is not something to BELIEVE in… It’s something to KNOW about.”- Noel Tyl

The Gestalt Approach to Reading a Chart

Fritz Perls’ definition of the Gestalt process comes from objectively watching the natural way that living beings deal with life’s essential needs such as hunger, aggression, mating, etc. Simply speaking, we all follow a similar process of becoming aware of what we want or need, focusing on a method of satisfying the need, acting out the plan, and reaching completion and integration. We’re hungry, we find food, eat it, digest it, assimilate it, become satisfied and, hopefully, move on to the next gestalt. We move from general awareness to specific back to general … with some growth happening in the process. The process is cyclic and never ending just as we must continue to breath in and out to stay alive.

The Gestalt approach to Astrology, from the “reader’s” point of view, is about looking at the Natal Condition from a process perspective. Seasoned professional Astrologers have learned various ways to “see” a chart from a process point of view. As they say, “I get a picture of who the person is.” Then they work toward communicating their vision to the client with greater or lesser degree of success.

From the broadest perspective, everyone’s natal chart has a unique visual configuration that forms an harmonious circle. After all, the solar system is always in harmony, so it’s important that we, as Astrologers, recognize that harmony and the potential for integration inherent in every client’s chart.

Then as we begin to notice groupings of the planets in quadrants: above and below or Eastern and Western. We assign meaning to these patterns representing the native’s propensity to certain psychological states such as introvert/extrovert or inner/outer. We might also identify karmic conditions that influence the native’s life mission and how it will likely be “acted out”.

Next we can focus on specific groups of planets in signs and house and what angles they make to each other. We can assign meaning to such patterns as Grand Squares, Mystic Rectangles, or “buckets”, etc.

At some point in our process of attention, we move from a broad perspective to a more analytical perspective, perhaps, to delineation. Finally, we return to “the big picture” through such techniques as Maritha Pottenger’s number system or Joan Negus’ “three times is the charm”. One might say we switch from right-brain to left-brain, from a Pisces to a Virgo perspective, or harmonize some personal opposition or square in our own chart. The process of awareness that we use to read the client’s chart is our own version of the gestalt process. It is HOW we deal with the world. It is how we ARE in the world.

When we, as Astrologers, look at another person’s natal chart from a gestalt perspective, we can sometimes relate to their primary processes of awareness and assume we can discriminate between our own propensities and our client’s.

The Experiential Gestalt Astrology Session

The Mandala work is a facilitated exercise performed by the Native (you) in a group or private session. It is an empowering opportunity for you as a client to participate and contribute.

A 12′ astrological natal chart is drawn on the floor. Spheres as symbols of the planets signs are placed on the grid corresponding to their positions in your natal chart. After you have had a few moments of sitting in the middle of the Mandala, having a physical experience of the colors, symbols, and their spatial relationships, you then begin a conversation with planets representing aspects of yourself: your present conflicts, dilemmas, “other” people in you life, even memories, dreams, and reflections.

Intellectual concepts and symbols are “fleshed out” with the drama of your life scripts, enabling meaning and purpose. Conflicting internal dialogues from opposing planets negotiate new contracts for more integrated behavior. Trine and sextile planets become consciously supportive. Unconscious planets join the team and show up with greater resources.

Everything that is important to you in your life is reflected in your natal chart and emphasized by current transiting planets. As you interact with your natal chart and the symbols of planets, signs, modalities, and elements, you develop an intuitive understanding of astrological energies and processes.

The Role of the Gestalt Astrology Facilitator

Being a Gestalt Facilitator is a way of relating to another person in a consulting or teaching role that requires quite different objectives and procedures than would an astrologer or psychoanalyst, for that matter. More emphasis is placed on empowering the “client” to experience his/her own processes and integrate new awareness’ into her/his life skills. The Gestalt Facilitator primarily acts as a “clear” mirror to reflect the client’s behavior back to their own awareness.

The Astrological Natal Chart is an objective mirror in the form of a visual symbol. While it is very focused and detailed, its archetypal principles provide unlimited depth of meaning. When we, as Astrologers, “read” a chart for a client, the benefits we offer are limited to our specific knowledge of astrology, our communication skills, the client’s ability or state of mind to listen, and the time/space limits of our session. With a gestalt approach, we can open the door, the natal chart, to greater possibilities of experience and understanding for the client. The potential of the client’s awareness is invited and, providing that the Facilitator is skillful and clear, even enhanced, allowing the client to leave a session with, not only greater knowledge but with greater self awareness of personal power.

Gestalt as a psychological approach is a cognitive modality that facilitates integration of body, emotions, mind, and spirit, enabling an experience of essential being, clarity, self-support, and personal empowerment. When applied to Astrology, the Gestalt experiential process provides an opportunity to transform the Ancient Wisdom of Astrology into a personal, existential experience of our Natal Integrity.
